Proceeds will benefit the library through grants from the Friends of Dubuque County Library. For example: the Friends is funding the 2012 library summer reading program. Children who meet their reading goals will receive a free paperback book courtesy of the Friends.
What can you do to support the library?
1. You can contact your local branch and sign up to volunteer for the sale. We need people to sort the books and staff the sale. Any time you can help us out would be greatly appreciated.
2. You can become a member of Friends. Pick up a brochure at your branch and sign up to get involved. We have lots of ongoing projects including making a quilt. Friends members painted and refurbished the Epworth branch this winter. Friends needs all kinds of interests and talents.
3. Come to the book sale and buy a bag of books. All the money will go to library needs such as new computers, new books, and new DVDs.
What is GAB?
The Library's book discussion group has a name: GAB (Girls and Books). We meet the third Thursday of every month at 6:30 p.m. at our NICC/Peosta branch. Last night we had a lively, fun discussion of Gary Schmidt's "The Wednesday Wars." For May we are reading the classic, dystopic novel "1984" by George Orwell. Come learn the origin of "big brother is watching you." Orwell has a lot to say to contemporary readers. Copies of the book are available to check out for the discussion. The next meeting is May 17th. Enjoy the weekend and I hope to see you at the book sale.
